How do grandparents say goodbye to a beloved granddaughter, especially one as special as Lily? It’s not something we ever expected we would have to do. But we want the world to know how unique and loved she was. Beautiful, thoughtful, caring, talented and sporty, she always had a different way of looking at life and its problems. Quietly unassuming and undemanding, she had a style of her own which endeared her to all who knew her. She enriched our lives and we hope she knew how much we and all her family loved her. Her death leaves a huge hole in our hearts. When she was little (and maybe ever since) she would say a bedtime prayer which left us feeling rather sad at the time. In the end it became Lily’s perfect prayer: ‘Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the Lord my soul to keep. And if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.’ Rest in peace, dearest Lily, safe in the arms of the Lord.
